Caking has long been the kryptonite for fertilizer producers. In the latest issue of World Fertilizer Magazine, Igor Makarenko, Global Director, Fertilizer for Solex Thermal Science, discusses how using indirect plate-type heat exchangers are giving fertilizer producers new hope.

Conditioning of soy beans is a critical yet energy-intensive process in achieving target efficiency in oil extraction plants. It is also a good heat sink for utilizing waste heat from the rest of the plant. Solex indirect plate heat exchangers provide high density of heat transfer area within a compact design that allows for very efficient utilization of the recovered energy. 

Heat exchangers can suffer from fouling caused by microorganisms, deposition of solids or scaling from calcium found in the water passed through the plates.
