Solids Matter — Winter 2023

Let's talk about the future

Welcome to the Winter 2023 edition of Solids Matter!

Late last fall, we sat down as a team in Haaksbergen, The Netherlands to talk about the year ahead. The location not only allowed our sales team to learn first-hand how we turn a design on paper into a piece of working equipment, but our fabrication team gained insights into how hard we work to understand our customers’ challenges.

Not surprisingly, many of the discussions in Haaksbergen were connected to work in support of the global energy transition. We get excited when our thermal and bulk materials engineering expertise can be used to help build a better, fairer and more sustainable world. In this quarterly issue of Solids Matter, you’ll see a couple examples of that in play – including, how our technology can support the recovery and reuse of waste heat from industrial processes.

Related to that, we further committed to making positive changes in the world around us with our first Communication of Progress report to the UN Global Compact, of which Solex is a member. In it, we pledge to follow environmental, social and governance (ESG) best practices, and strengthen the accountability that we have to our employees, our customers and stakeholders. There will be lots more to come on this, so stay tuned.

Meanwhile, last fall also saw the publication of international expert Kish Shah’s book titled Ammonium Nitrate and Fertilizer Safety. In it, Shah recognizes Solex for pioneering the now industry-wide use of moving bed heat exchangers (MBHEs) and their effectiveness in controlling the dew point during the fertilizer cooling process. It was quite an honour that our staff took great pride in seeing!

Lastly, we are pleased to congratulate Corrosion on winning the Dutch Maritime Innovation Award for its ground-breaking UV-C box coolers. This game-changing anti-fouling technology for the maritime industry not only improves operational efficiency, but also reduces the environmental impacts when compared to today’s box cooler heat exchangers.

Please enjoy this edition of Solids Matter. We look forward to hearing from you. At Solex, our “why” is to find ways to help you.
