Solex rallies behind ‘agents of change’

Recent efforts part of company’s commitment to positive change in the community

Solex Thermal Science believes in making a positive difference in people’s lives, and that starts with the community around us.  

Solex was honoured to recently support two extremely worthwhile organizations, The Mustard Seed and Calgary Firefighters Toy Association, with separate donations as part of an ongoing commitment to promote, encourage and support a diverse range of corporate social responsibility activities. 

“Both of these agents of change embody the positive impact that we hope to see more of in the world around us,” says Lowy Gunnewiek, Chief Executive Officer with Solex Thermal Science. 

“While 2020 was a challenging year for many as we had to learn how to navigate through a global pandemic, there are countless others who have endured further hardships with the loss of their livelihoods and financial security. We are proud to support the selfless efforts of groups that are dedicated to reaching those individuals who need our collective support the most.” 

For more than 40 years, The Mustard Seed has been offering a safe, supportive haven for individuals in Calgary who are experiencing poverty and homelessness. The Calgary-based organization offers services and support to those in need with the goal of helping them make positive, lasting changes in their lives. 

Solex’s contribution will be used to help support programs and services, including basic needs (food, clothing and hygiene items), education, employment, health and wellness, spiritual care and housing and emergency shelter. 

The Calgary Firefighters Toy Association’s history dates back to 1945, when the late Howard Williams, a Calgary firefighter, would repair old toys and provide them to children whose families were less fortunate.

Today, the association’s annual campaign provides approximately 1,800 families a year with the donation of toys, including hosting an annual Christmas party for selected families. Solex’s donation was used to help purchase new toys.  

Solex has been supporting the Calgary Firefighters Toy Association since 2015. This is the first year the company has been involved with The Mustard Seed.  

In previous years, Solex has been involved with several additional organizations, including the Calgary Food Bank and Terminator Foundation, the later of which supports youth and young adults in their effort to recover from addiction and mental health issues. Solex has also offered employees annual charitable giving accounts to support causes of their choice.
